Abstract

If we want to provide significant input to improve the decision making and to innovate the design educational policies, it is
very important to study how training practices and learning processes have been changed by the introduction of the ICTs at the universities, as well as, how this situation affects on the professional and personal identities of different educational actors. But the task is not that simple, because there are some gaps, within and between countries that prevent generalization. Thus, it is advisable to begin with the analysis of a case study to identify the type of the digital culture that has been formed. This is the idea that guided the present search. This investigation constitutes the first stage of a broader research that approaches the use of ICTs, at public universities. The purpose is to identify main features of the students´ digital culture, at a public university situated in the southern-central region of Mexico, from the analysis of the ICT uses. The relevance of the present study is not only for the significance of itstopic, but also for its contribution to the study of the effects of ICTs on higher education studies. Conclusions  offeran important  characterization of the digital culture that will allow us to succeed in the decision making.
