The critical information literacy: an incipient current in Latin América

The article deals with information literacy and the theoretical-experiential foundations of the alternative current known as critical information literacy. Some salient aspects around the emergence and evolution of literacy in the 20th century, the emergence of the informational literacy construct and the so-called new literacies are described. Subsequently, some pedagogical experiences in critical information literacy implemented in the North American context are described.
