Abstract

A Tele-electrocardiography pilot test, as a part of a more ambitious project for creating a Tele-education and Tele-health network, was carried out. The sample was formed by twenty students of the medical school program and two faculty specialists (a Clinician and a Cardiologist). Objectives: A) To acquaint students and teaching clinicians with the use of a digital electrocardiograph, as a useful technology tool for distance education or Tele-education related to Tele-health. B) Tolearn  about student and faculty attitudes of this kind of technology in rural environments. C) To analyze the impact of using Tele-electrocardiography in hospital and ambulatory care as a Tele-health tool. Results: Both students and faculty reported a favorable opinion about Tele-education, as a tool for enhancing teaching, and Tele-health, as a back-up tool for students during their community-care internship. Also, results revealed the potential positive impact this type of technology can have on relieving over-crowding specialized medical visits in hospitals, and on strengthening of the ambulatory network.
